About us
The Building Physics Research Group at the Department of Architecture and Urban Planning of Ghent University focuses on advancing knowledge related to sustainable, energy-efficient and healthy buildings. The group investigates building materials, façade systems, building services and complete building concepts to understand their performance in terms of energy use, indoor climate and hygrothermal behaviour.
Its research integrates numerical modelling, laboratory experiments, on-site testing and large-scale monitoring. Core topics include high-performance façade and renovation techniques, the energy performance of residential buildings and the optimization of indoor air quality and thermal comfort.
The group uses advanced simulation tools, measurement equipment and specialized test facilities for evaluating façade components and energy technologies. It collaborates closely with national and international research partners and provides expert support to companies, designers and public authorities.
