HempWood®
About us
HempWood® is the first carbon-negative, plant-based, VOC-free alternative to traditional wood, made of industrial hemp.
Back in 2016, Fibonacci LLC (USA), trading as HempWood®, was founded with the goal of contributing to slowing down the deforestation process by using fast-growing industrial hemp plants and converting them into a new wood type, called HempWood®.
HempWood® is innovative and unique because it is the first carbon-negative, plant-based alternative to regular wood. The technology is patented in several continents worldwide. It will significantly reduce the need for wood altogether.
HempWood® will help countries and industries in their efforts to capture vast amounts of CO2 and preserve their natural forests. HempWood® can already now partially replace decorative wood for interior use and by 2026 also construction wood, including hemp-based OSB panels.

HempWood® Organic Flooring
HempWood® is a carbon-negative, plant-based alternative to regular parquet flooring. HempWood® captures a high volume of CO2, approximately 1.62 tons of CO2 per ton of hemp stalks. This makes HempWood® a clean, healthy, extremely durable replacement for regular wood. Since it does not use any added formaldehyde, it does not emit any VOCs, thus avoiding off-gassing. It is 20% harder than oak, and can be converted from hemp seed to HempWood® in merely 120 days. This as opposed to regular trees that have to grow 50-100 years before being cut down. HempWood® can in this way contribute to avoiding deforestation. HempWood® uses the stems of 3-4 meter high industrial hemp plants, crushes and compresses them into a solid block and uses a soya-based adhesive instead of formaldehyde-based to keep the hemp stalks together. The HempWood® block is cut up length-wise into 4mm thick slices and attached to the FSC certified poplar plywood base. The result is HempWood® Organic Flooring. The flooring boards are installed using a tongue and groove system, and the surface of the boards are finished with high-quality Bona Traffic HD coating. Thanks to the combination of its durability (hardness & hard-wearing) and its sustainability (carbon-negative) it is suitable for both commercial and residential projects.

HempWood® Furniture Panels
HempWood® is a carbon-negative, plant-based alternative to regular wood, made from the industrial hemp plant. From seed to finished product only takes 5 months, which is much shorter than the 50-100 years of a tree to grow to full maturity. Since it does not contain any added formaldehyde, it is VOC free, which improves the indoor air quality. HempWood® Panels exist in both an engineered as well as a solid version. Both versions can have the more linear “rift visual” or the more random “live sawn” visual. The panels are used to make furniture, kitchen tops or wall panels.

HempWood® Lumber
HempWood® is a carbon-negative, plant-based alternative to regular wood. HempWood® lumber is cut from a solid HempWood® block. Each block can be cut into lumber of different thicknesses and be used for wood-turning, furniture, door and window frames, as well as many other applications.
