Description

Patients, staff and visitors enter Ghent University Hospital via a new modular entrance pavilion with soundproof conversation boxes, the second remarkable construction project for which the hospital successfully counted on VDL De Meeuw. A hospital pharmacy with cleanroom was previously built. Both projects were carried out using the modular approach for which VDL De Meeuw is known.

VDL De Meeuw is a familiar face in the hospital world, with numerous diverse and advanced medical facilities on their list of references. The transparent and functional entrance pavilion, designed by VK architects+engineers, is part of Ghent University Hospital’s Project U master plan and is used temporarily according to a lease formula of at least six years.

The entrance building, with a striking red colour, functions as a beacon on the hospital site. The front facade consists of glass and steel, which bathes the entrance hall in natural light. Customer-friendly service is guaranteed by registration columns, registration desks and confidential conversation rooms, all modularly constructed.

The entrance pavilion is also technically and ecologically advanced, with an energy-efficient cooling and heating system and a VRF air conditioning system. De Meeuw is also a pioneer in the field of hospital pharmacies, with a modular hospital lab with integrated cleanroom for UZ Gent.

After use on the hospital campus, the facilities are reused at other locations thanks to VDL De Meeuw’s circular approach. The modular construction method offers flexibility for both temporary and permanent hospital buildings, with the possibility of adjustments or extensions.
